Needle Felting

Recently I discovered needle felting, a craft not many know about yet but I am sure once people see what you can create, it'll become quite popular. I did a course with Bustle and Bows in Surrey Hills yesterday and have a ball with 5 other lovely ladies and a wonderful teacher Glynis Knott. We spent the day learning the craft of dry needle felting and you'll see the results from the pictures posted. I have already purchased 2 more books from Book Depository and cannot wait to begin my new hobby, stay posted!

A Lovely Little Frock

Just another cute frock made from my new Japanese pattern Book, I have to practice a few times, so lucky little Milla gets all the practice runs, once it's perfect I will start to use some of my lovely collection of fabrics.

My new LOVE...Japanese Pattern Books

I recently stumbled across some Japanese Pattern books when visiting Patchworks in Malvern, I only had to flick through the first few pages to fall in love...I loved every single dress, top, skirt inside. Japanese designers have simplicity to their outfits, soft flowing feminine styles...which I love to wear.  Unfortunately these pattern books are still in Japanese, and although the sales lady insisted they are simple to follow my brain turned to mush when I looked at all the Japanese text, how was I ever going to translate it. So, I set myself a challenge, I figured all the standard patterns were so done and dusted, I wanted something new and exciting. I got onto Etsy and bought myself a Japanese Pattern Book called The Stylish Dress book, well it arrived this morning and to my excitement I opened it up and have started to translate the instructions, lots of research on the net for translating Japanese sewing text...it's slowly coming together and I have drawn up the pattern pieces already...will keep you posted.
The Dress I am making.

BIG NEWS!!!......Pattern Update.

I did it...although there is a slight issue (I'll tell you in a sec!)..I managed to not only translate the pattern but learnt a few Japanese sewing symbols along the way. It took 2 hrs to work the pattern out and cut the pieces up..very time consuming but now I know it'll be easy the next time and then next until I don't need a pattern at all. So, now for the little issue - Japanese girls are PETITE, problem, a Japanese size 9 (Australian 10), is not really an Australian 10, so the dress is too small for me. I'm a bit broader across the shoulders so that's the only place it's tight..oh well luckily this was a test run and was made from an old (not so old) sheet. I'll give it away to someone petite. Anyway, other than that it was very simple to make, still got to add the pockets but there is so much you could do to it, you could add a frill or a fabric flower pin.

My Favourite Artist...just couldn't afford the real thing.

My favourite Artist is Robyn Rankin, I just love her whimsical brightly colours acrylic paintings, they are stunning and so absorbing to look at...I just couldn't afford to buy one at this stage, so the next best thing...paint it myself..not quite as good but it still reminds me of her, and when I manage to save enough cash to buy the real deal, I will.

Pretty Little Dress

So, this cute little dress was so simple to make, this one is a practise one as the fabric is not exactly what I pictured, I see a soft flowing feminine fabric, so the search is on..but for posting this will do. I cannot help but make girlie things, they are easy and there are so many patterns...I did although use Oscar as my model, he wasn't overly impressed. If you're interested in this patter, let me know and I'll post you out a copy. This dress can be made from a thicker Wintery Fabric to make it suitable for the colder months ahead, with a cute scarf, jacket and boots...

Pizza Anyone?

I have started to make Oscar a felt pizza, it won't be as good as what you can buy in the shops but it'll be tastier as it's absolutely covered in LOVE, so I am sure Oscar will be very full after eating this...

Hello Cute Little Bottles...you look like you need some Homemade Lemon Cordial...

I found these cute little bottles in the Op shop today, 50 cents each, I managed to get about 12 in my arms. JJ has been looking out for old looking bottles to make his Traditional Lemon Cordial and call it "Oscar's Lemon Cordial", with his own personally designed label by our amazing friend Leroy. Stay tuned for a taste!
A Squeeze of Lemon perhaps?

What a lovely little Chair

This has to be my favourite. This restored Eames style Chair I found in hard rubbish in our neighborhood, it stood out instantly with it sunflower plastic upholstry, torns and worn out, a very unloved chair waiting to be scooped up and revamped. I recovered this little treat with a unisex cotton fabric, sanded back the frame, gave it a quick polish and voila...it came up beautifully and basically cost me nothing. Oscar just loves it.
What a treasure!

It's nearly as good as the real thing...just not so messy

Firstly, this gorgeous cage was picked up at a 2nd hand market for $3 (Bargain!)..I sprayed it white to give it a vintage feel, I was pretty happy with how it turned out...a little bit of TLC goes a long way. I picked up my pretty red bird for $6 at Mozi in Hampton Street. They had 70% off all there Chrissie stock, to me it didn't look to Christmassy, so i think I'll hang it all year round.

Mmm...what to do with these?

Today my girlfriend gave me lots of beautiful old boxes which I now know were used at Schools for building purposes and to put rods through the middle of them and make things. They were hanging around her daughters childcare centre so she instantly thought of me..(she thinks I'm creative). So, I now have my thinking cap on as to what to do with them...so many ideas!

The Beginning...

The beginning of(I'm not quite sure), but usually it comes together half way through..so I'm just going with that for now and hope that I get something worth while out of it in the end!..
